Recurrent Miscarriage: When to Get Checked in Hyderabad

After two miscarriages, it is reasonable to be evaluated rather than waiting for a third loss. The check looks at the uterus, thyroid, blood sugar, and selected genetic or clotting tests chosen from your history. A cause is not found in every couple. Dr. Sravya Buggana sees patients for this at Alkapur Township, Hyderabad.

When the evaluation should start

One miscarriage is common and is often due to a chance chromosome change in that pregnancy. It does not, by itself, mean the next pregnancy will be lost. After two clinical miscarriages, many fertility specialists offer an evaluation. It can start earlier if you are 35 or older, if a pregnancy was lost after a known uterine problem, or if cycles and medical history already point to a condition that should be treated.

What the tests are trying to answer

  • Is the uterine cavity shaped in a way that can disturb a pregnancy? That may need ultrasound or hysteroscopy.
  • Is the thyroid, prolactin, or glucose control abnormal?
  • Do the parents carry a chromosome rearrangement that can be passed on? This blood test is not required for every couple.
  • Are there clotting or immune findings that fit this history? These panels are selected. A long list of blood tests is not useful for everyone.

Read the clinic page on recurrent miscarriage for how care is organised. Reproductive immunology is considered only when the history supports it, not as a first test for a single loss.

What a normal workup means

A large share of couples never receive one named cause. That is not a failed consultation. The next pregnancy is then planned with the treatable problems corrected, and with a clear plan for early scans. Treatment is not the same as progesterone for everyone, aspirin for everyone, or IVF for everyone.

Bring discharge summaries from each pregnancy, the weeks at which the loss was diagnosed, and any tissue genetic report if one was done.

Common questions

Should we wait for a third miscarriage before seeing a doctor?

No. After two miscarriages it is reasonable to be evaluated. Some histories justify tests after one loss.

Will tests always find the reason?

No. Many couples have a normal workup. Care then focuses on the next pregnancy rather than on an unnamed cause.

Does one miscarriage mean I need IVF?

No. A single miscarriage is not an indication for IVF. IVF is discussed only if a separate fertility problem is present.
