Endometriosis and Fertility in Hyderabad
Endometriosis can make pregnancy harder through pelvic pain, ovarian cysts, and scar tissue around the tubes or ovaries. It does not mean surgery is required before every attempt to conceive. Age, pain, cyst size, and whether the tubes are open decide the order of treatment. Dr. Sravya Buggana plans this care in Hyderabad.
How endometriosis can affect fertility
Endometriosis is tissue similar to the uterine lining growing outside the uterus. It may cause painful periods, pain with intercourse, or no pain at all. Fertility can be affected when an endometrioma involves the ovary, when adhesions disturb the tube or ovary, or when inflammation is part of a longer delay in conceiving. Mild disease found incidentally is not the same problem as a large cyst or blocked tubes.
When surgery is discussed
Laparoscopy is considered when pain is severe, when a cyst is large or unclear, or when the tubes need to be assessed and treated. It is not a routine step for every woman with suspected endometriosis who wants to conceive soon. Ovarian surgery can also reduce the number of eggs, so the decision weighs pain relief against ovarian reserve, especially if AMH is already low.
Endometriosis and fibroid care starts with ultrasound and the history. A fibroid is a separate finding. It matters for fertility when it distorts the uterine cavity, not merely because it is present in the wall.
Trying to conceive with known endometriosis
- If tubes are open, pain is manageable, and age allows, ovulation care or IUI may still be reasonable.
- IVF is discussed when tubes are damaged, when surgery is not the safer route, or when other treatment has not led to pregnancy.
- A semen analysis is still required. Endometriosis in one partner does not exclude a male factor.
Bring prior operation notes if you have already had a laparoscopy. The findings at that surgery matter more than the word endometriosis alone.
Common questions
Does endometriosis always cause infertility?
No. Some women with endometriosis conceive without treatment. The effect depends on cysts, scar tissue, tubes, age, and how long you have been trying.
Do I need laparoscopy before trying to get pregnant?
Not always. Surgery is discussed for significant pain, a large or uncertain cyst, or tubal disease. It is not a rule before every pregnancy attempt.
Can removing an endometrioma reduce egg count?
Ovarian cyst surgery can reduce ovarian reserve. That risk is weighed against pain and the ultrasound findings before an operation is planned.
